- First?kudos for planting older trees. Thank you. Second?I was surprised to see this Ulnus Carpinifolia being planted. Any concerns about Dutch Elm? Is it a more resistant hybrid? Third?I get it...those compacted tree pits must be a bear to dig out....but can you ask Leahy to dig a pit that is much wider and as deep as root ball? Also to fill out with water before placing tree? This hole was the circumference of the root ball and as you can see the top of the root ball is about 6" above the plane of the pit.
