Description
Constituent reports: Throughout the city, Boston's remaining fire alarm boxes are deteriorating. These boxes are historical and should be protected. Since 1852, this system has served the city well. When Boston is captured in photos, YouTube, movies and even on the city historical website Boston's fire alarm boxes can be spotted. The city should declare the fire alarm boxes as historical landmarks. They have proven over time the effectiveness of simple technology and should be protected. I suggest an "Adopt A Boston Fire Alarm Box" program open to neighborhood community groups, historical groups, places of worship, insurance companies, financial institutions, businesses, clubs, and individuals throughout the city. For an annual fee, the exterior of the boxes would be traditionally reconditioned on-site (sanded, re-painted red with black posts, red globes or lanterns replaced, box number tags replaced and a recognition to the adoptees. The mechanical internal repairs would remain the responsibility of the city. How do we make this happen? This is a win-win for the city! | Case (SR) Type: [Fire Department Issues] Referred To: [FIRE DEPARTMENT]
