To: Felix Arroyo September 27, 2010 Michael Ross Ayanna Pressley Stephen Murphy John R. Connolly Chuck Turner Sonia Chang-Diaz From: Natasha Lassiter Hello All, I submit before you, a letter of plea. I am a first time home buyer through the City of Boston. I have purchased my home in June 2010 on 141 Howard Ave Dorchester, MA 02125. Since seeking ownership, I have made several complaints to the Inspectional Services Department for rodent infestation. I have been told to be patient, instructed on how to set traps, and advised to talk to my neighbors about keeping the area clean. I have also been informed that this rodent infestation has been an on-going problem within this community and the city has continued to neglect it. There have been several complaints on the landowner of 51 Woodcliff Street Dorchester, MA 02125, who has been contributed to the infestation. This landowner uses his vacant lot to store trash and debris. This issue is a safety issue due to children who live and play in the area. The rodents play within this lot (51 Woodcliff Street Dorchester, MA 02125) and feed off the trash left behind. The rodents are so bad, that the dog that guards the lot ignores then. The rodents feed off the dog. The dog does not eat and appears sickly. I have notified animal rescue and no one has come to check the status of this animal. Due to the lot being directly across from a City playground, the rodents make it difficult for the children in the neighborhood to play in the park. The rodents are in the ground. There are several holes within the dirt of the play ground as well as other homes in the area. It has become of great demand that the City attend to this matter for that I have a 19month old child. I have attempted to exterminate and hire exterminators to attend to this matter. The rodents continue to cut new holes in the ground and enter my home. I have two tenants who have refused to pay rent due to this issue. It has cost me a great deal of money attempting to maintain the property, but I can not maintain the area alone. Therefore, I am pleading with all of my local representatives, ISD (Inspectional Service Department) and the Mayor’s Office to assist in cleaning up the community and cracking down on this landowner. I beg the city to help me maintain my property. I am a single parent of three and a registered voter. I recently purchased this home, but will soon face foreclosure if I loose my tenants due to this continuous issue. I feel that city has overlooked this area for many years and continue to neglect the services and needs of this community. If there is anything you can do to assist in this matter it would be greatly appreciated. My contact information is below. Please feel free to contact me if you need additional information. Re: Illicit and illegal activity in the reeds and in the gardens and garden paths. Please tell me what steps the mayor's office is taking to eliminate this activity in the area. Intermintent police patrols on motorcyle and on foot is not enough to curb this activity in this area. This weekend I counted 8 used condoms, anal syringes and one rather large human feces dump in my garden path row. This ongoing problem also gives cover to the other illegal activity underway in the reeds and at night. I just went on the internet to find information about willow trees in the Fens and one of the sites that came up is "Fens-Gay Boston Cruising Area". The Victory Fens is given high star ratings on the internet for gay cruising and even has references to orgy trees!!! When is your office going to implement a comprehensive program that addresses this problem seriously and not just when there is a problem in the area or some article highlighted in the press? I will begin taking photos of the condoms, feces, syringes, sex wrappers, etc. activity that continues to accumulate in the garden paths and I will email these photos to your offices for your ongoing updates and review. I will also transmit these photos to one of the medio outlets until someone or some agency takes notice of this ongoing problem in Boston's backyard. |

Whole area needs to be mowed. And would like see that it continues on some sort of regular basis. Also, garbage cleanup would be great. There's a lot of loose garbage all around the beach and along the sidewalks near the playground(including condoms and condom wrappers). Would like to see the City address this. | SR Area: [Ground Maintenance]
