The majority of the traffic on is not coming or going to the Hyatt. The majority of traffic is going beyond the Hyatt to freight/cargo opearators ie... FedEx, AA Cargo, Delta Cargo etc.. or to the south entrance to the ramp. I have never seen anything like it. You normally have starting from the bottom green - yellow - red. These lights seem to have random colors. Red flashing at the bottom, yellow flashing at the bottom. The intersection is challenging because it is very hard to see approaching cars and they do approach at high speed. As a runner I often have to cross that intersection. I use the pedestrian push buttons, but never know what the lights mean. Can't they be setup to comply with standard settings that people are used to? And instead of just blinking, can't they function like a regular traffic light? What is so special about this intersection? In 2013 election lawyer William A. McDermott was killed when crossing the street at exactly that spot. The traffic light at the intersection of Morrissey Blvd and University Ave W seems to be causing unnecessary traffic heading North during the AM commute. All this week there has been a back up for a qtr mile due to that light. I take this route daily and it has been an issue all this week. The detectors for the EB approach on Columbia Rd is not functioning. During the off-peak when the signal is set to actuated, it is NOT providing a green signal. When approaching the driver must either wait for a vehicle to approach WB or to run the ALL RED signal. This is forcing a dangerous situation where vehicles are being forced to run a red light (especially late at night). It is even more a safety issue since vehicles approach from G St down the hill are gaining speed and can be quickly given a green light. This has been an issues for over 2 months!
