Illegal Posting of Signs
25 Foster St, Brighton, Ma, 02135Copied from constituent's e-mail: "What if I told you that there's a business in Boston generating more than 34 tons of trash per week that the city ends up paying to dispose of or recycle, and cheating other Boston businesses while doing so? Would you be interested in putting a stop to it, to reduce Boston's annual trash bill by more than $100,000? Around September of last year, weekly "Globe Direct in association with redplum" advertising circulars began showing up on my front stoop, along with the front stoops of every other house on my block. I do not read these circulars. Every week, they go straight into the recycling bin. It is a waste of the Globe's money and of scarce environmental resources to deliver them to me. But wait, it's worse... Many weeks the circular doesn't make it all the way to my front stoop, but rather ends up on the sidewalk or even in the street. I see the plastic bags full of circulars littering the sidewalk and street all up and down my block, ignored by most residents and getting gross and slimy in the rain or snow, until someone has the decency to pick them up and throw them away. Believe me, I'm far from the only "recipient" of these circulars who never actually sees them. But wait, it's worse... I have been trying to get the Globe to stop delivering these circulars to my house since September 2013 with no success. I have contacted the Globe on six separate occasions, via email, via telephone conversations with their offshore customer service department, and most recently via a telephone conversation with someone in their Boston office. I have been told repeatedly that the deliveries would stop, and yet I just received another one today. How many other people do you think the Globe has refused to stop delivering these circulars to even when asked? But wait, it's worse... Today I was delivered not one but two copies of the circular, nestled together in the same bag. All of these problems have one thing in common: they make it crystal clear that the Globe doesn't actually care how many people see these circulars. All they care about is how many copies of the circular they can claim to be delivering, because their circulation numbers determine how much they can charge advertisers! In other words, through their littering, distribution of multiple circulars per household, and refusal to stop delivering the circulars to people who don't want them, they are deceiving other Boston businesses and overcharging them for advertising. Is there anything you can do to get the Globe to stop delivering these circulars to people who don't want them?" | Type of posting: [Handbills] Exact location: [Sidewalk] Sponsor details: [Globe Direct]
