I'm writing on behalf of my mother who's rented apartment recently got flooded due to a HVAC line burst. The issue involved a leaking HVAC line that caused flooding and water damage to my mother's apartment at 121 North Point Drive, Boston, MA 02125. The landlord replaced the ceiling and repainted the ceiling. After these repairs, her unit experienced persistent and strong odor of paint. I'm extremely concerned with the air quality of her apartment and would like to ask for your help to conduct a sanitation/air quality inspection/test at your earliest convenience. Specifically, we would like the inspection to address, to the extent within the Board of Health’s jurisdiction: Any remaining signs of water intrusion, moisture, or dampness following the repairs. Any visible signs of mold, mildew, or other conditions that could contribute to mold growth. The sanitation and environmental condition of areas affected by the water leak and subsequent repairs. Any conditions that may adversely affect the indoor environmental quality or health of the occupants. Following the repairs, the unit has experienced a persistent and strong odor of paint. We are concerned about the indoor air quality of the apartment and whether the odor may be associated with paint, building materials, cleaning products, or other substances used during or after the repairs. We respectfully request that the Board of Health evaluate the indoor air quality and, if appropriate and within its jurisdiction, conduct or recommend appropriate air-quality testing to determine whether any potentially harmful substances or conditions are present. Any other sanitation, environmental health, mold, moisture, or indoor-air-quality concerns that the inspector considers relevant to the health and safety of the occupant. Could you please let me know whether and when these areas would be addressed by the Board of Health's Inspector or any other department within the Board of Health?
