This is a formal report of a Zoning Code violation for excessive light trespass and unshielded exterior lighting at 40 Rugg Rd (Harper Apartments). An exterior commercial light fixture on this building—specifically located on the top floor patio facing west —is completely unshielded and angled directly into my adjacent residential condo unit. The intensity of the glare is illuminating my home at night, creating a private nuisance that prevents sleep and disrupts the use of my property. Under Boston Zoning regulations, exterior commercial lighting must be shielded and directed downward to prevent light trespass onto adjacent residential properties. I have attached photos showing the severe glare penetrating my home. I am requesting that ISD inspect this violation and issue a citation requiring the property management to install a cut-off shield or angle the fixture downward to comply with city code.
