I am submitting this as a general traffic engineering and traffic management concern involving multiple major Boston corridors. Boston’s traffic situation has become completely unacceptable. The constant lane closures, tunnel closures, construction projects, and poorly coordinated traffic signals are creating unnecessary and extreme congestion throughout the city. The Sumner and Williams Tunnels are frequently filled with cones and lane restrictions, sometimes for hours or throughout the night with little or no visible activity. I-90 East has had restrictions and work around the same areas for months, while I-93 South and I-93 North continue to experience one traffic disruption after another. I understand that infrastructure work is necessary, but the city needs to seriously review how these projects are scheduled and managed. Construction should not create more disruption than necessary, and traffic signals should be properly coordinated to improve traffic flow. I am a professional driver and spend 10–12 hours on Boston-area roads. I hear the same frustration directly from passengers every day. People are losing an unreasonable amount of time in traffic, and drivers are losing income, fuel, time with their families, and quality of life. Please review the coordination of traffic signals, the duration and necessity of lane closures, construction scheduling, and traffic management around the Sumner and Williams Tunnels, I-90 East, I-93 South, and I-93 North. Construction may be necessary. Poor coordination is not. Boston needs to do better and start considering the people who have to live and work through this every day.

Going on 3 months and the city’s “private contractor” hasn’t removed this mattress. Maybe it’s time for a new contractor. People are starting to leave their trash next to it now too.
