See BCS-00313520, "Request for Inspectional Services housing inspection — Unsatisfactory Living Conditions. We took possession of 74 Hammond Street, Apartment #2, Boston, MA 02120 on September 1, 2026 and immediately discovered multiple pre-existing conditions of concern. These include evidence of rodent activity, including a dead mouse found inside the apartment, twenty or more mouse traps and pest-control materials and loose rat poison, already present in the kitchen; gaps/openings and deteriorated areas that provide rodent entry points; a damaged/deteriorated entry door frame; peeling and deteriorated paint/plaster; missing smoke detector; areas of dark discoloration and odors that may be associated with moisture and/or possible mold; and the apartment has not been cleaned between tenants. Because of these conditions we have not moved into the apartment. The landlord has been notified in writing and showed up as we again walked through the apartment on September 6. We identified the many issues to him and requested a timeline and plan for correcting the conditions. He gave us a vague and noncommittal response and no repair timeline. We are requesting that this case be routed to Boston Inspectional Services – Housing as an Unsatisfactory Living Conditions complaint and that a housing inspector inspect the apartment for compliance with the Massachusetts State Sanitary Code, including the rodent activity and possible entry points, damaged/deteriorated surfaces, door/frame condition, possible moisture-related conditions, and unclean conditions. We have photographs documenting the conditions as they appeared immediately after move-in and can provide them to the inspector. We are willing to provide reasonable access for inspection and repairs. Live rat observed entering the rear patio of the active construction site at 27 Hancock Street through a visible gap beneath the fence/chicken wire. Photo shows the entry point. Please have ISD inspect 27 Hancock and require appropriate rodent exclusion and control measures.
