Columbia Rd & Dudley StIssue Type: Utility Cover Repair / Street Repair Location: Columbia Road (near the Uphams Corner intersection corridor) Description of Issue: Immediate public safety hazard and street infrastructure defect. A rectangular telecommunications utility vault cover stamped "NextG Networks" (owned by Crown Castle) is severely sunken, receded, and structurally unstable relative to the surrounding asphalt. This is a highly traversed corridor experiencing constant vehicle traffic, including heavy municipal buses. The depressed cover causes loud structural rattling, severe vehicle alignment jarring, and forces sudden defensive swerving from drivers trying to maintain lane control. This grade defect violates Boston Municipal Code Chapter 11-6, which requires private utility hardware to remain completely flush with the roadway. This unresolved degradation compromises street safety and endangers vulnerable neighborhood populations navigating adjacent crosswalks. Requesting an emergency maintenance order for Crown Castle to repair, level, or replace the hatch, and immediate temporary safety countermeasures at the site.
