I am writing to request that BTD evaluate and install a marked crosswalk (with a pedestrian signal or crossing beacon, such as a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon or HAWK signal) on Beacon Street at its intersection with Chestnut Hill Driveway crossing Beacon St to Chestnut Hill Rd. This crossing is currently unmarked/unsignaled, despite regular pedestrian activity from nearby residences, Boston College, and the Chestnut Hill Reservoir path, as well as MBTA Green Line D-branch riders walking to and from the Reservoir and Chestnut Hill stops. Beacon Street carries significant vehicle volume and speed at this location, making it difficult and unsafe for pedestrians to cross, particularly for older adults, families with children, and reservoir walkers and runners. Specific concerns include: • Limited sight lines for both drivers and pedestrians at this intersection • High vehicle speeds along this stretch of Beacon Street • Regular pedestrian crossings without any marked crossing or signal protection • Heavy foot traffic tied to reservoir recreation and nearby transit stops I respectfully request that BTD conduct a field study of this location and consider installing a marked, high-visibility (continental/ladder-style) crosswalk with an appropriate signal or beacon to improve pedestrian safety.
