Illegal Parking
7 Harvard Ter, Allston, Ma, 02134I am writing to express my concerns regarding the parking situation on Harvard Terrace in Allston, Massachusetts, where I have been a resident for just over six months. I am unsure if this is the correct portal to issue a parking complaint but hope to be connected to the appropriate contact if not. This short, dead-end street, which is home to multiple apartment buildings and families, has become increasingly difficult for residents to navigate when it comes to finding accessible parking. Unlike many residential areas in Boston, Harvard Terrace has no restrictions on resident parking. As a result, the street is often overwhelmed with non-resident vehicles, including shoppers from nearby businesses, construction workers from ongoing projects across the street, and visitors staying in the area who take advantage of the unrestricted parking, making it challenging for people who actually live there. I've especially seen several construction workers working on the development of a new apartment building on Harvard Street take up several parking spots on Harvard Terrace. While I understand that visitors should have access to parking and find comfort in their vehicles, the current situation significantly impacts residents. Many of us find ourselves driving around for extended periods in search of available parking or resorting to parking several blocks away, which is particularly challenging for families or individuals with limited mobility or carrying heavy belongings or groceries, and takes a lot of time out of our day. For instance, I have waited hours in my car for a spot to open up on Harvard Terrace on several occasions and have circled the area to find a place to park. I believe a potential solution could be to implement parking restrictions on Harvard Terrace, similar to what exists in other parts of the city. Options might include designating the street for resident parking only or allowing visitor parking for limited hours. This would help ensure residents can access parking more easily, improve the overall safety and accessibility of our community, and prioritize community needs. This street also has a significant unsanitary problem with several rodents seen in the area and trash build up on the streets that should be taken care of (ex. street cleaning) to ensure the cleanliness and health of the community. Thank you for considering this issue. I appreciate your attention to residents' concerns and hope for a resolution that benefits everyone who lives in and visits the area.
