I am requesting that the City inspect Starr Lane in Jamaica Plain and provide an update on whether the street and sidewalks are scheduled for repair or resurfacing. Several surrounding streets, including Green Street and Seaverns Avenue, have recently received road improvements, while Starr Lane continues to have significant roadway and sidewalk issues. The condition of Starr Lane includes numerous potholes, large bumps and uneven sections of pavement, and areas where the roadway appears to have been repeatedly cut or patched. There is also broken glass and other debris in the street and under cars. Street cleaning does not appear to adequately cover the entire street; the sweeper often turns around near the top, presumably because Starr Lane is extremely narrow. The narrow roadway and its condition also raise a public safety concern. Starr Lane is a one way street leading toward Centre Street, with vehicles parked along the street, including vehicles belonging to non-residents. Given the limited width and current conditions, I would like the City to confirm that emergency vehicles, including fire trucks, have adequate access to all properties on Starr Lane. The sidewalks are also in poor condition, with holes and uneven areas that create accessibility concerns. A wheelchair user who previously lived in the area regularly had to travel in the roadway because portions of the sidewalk were not safely accessible. There have also been multiple dead rats observed in the street, adding to the sanitation concerns. Starr Lane appears to have been repeatedly overlooked while nearby streets receive improvements. Please have the appropriate department inspect the entire length of Starr Lane and address the following: 1. Whether Starr Lane is currently scheduled for resurfacing or roadway repairs, and if so, the anticipated timeline. 2. Inspection of the potholes, uneven pavement, and damaged sidewalks. 3. Whether the street and current parking conditions provide sufficient access for fire trucks and other emergency vehicles. 4. Whether street sweeping can safely and effectively service the entire street. 5. The recurring sanitation issue, including debris, broken glass, and dead rodents. Please do not simply close this case as a duplicate or resolved without providing information about the City's plans for Starr Lane. I am specifically requesting an inspection and a response regarding what corrective action, if any, will be taken and the anticipated timeline. Thank you.
