Intersection Of W Second St And B St, South Boston, MaThis photo shows a vehicle parked at the corner of the intersection near the stop sign and crosswalk at W. 2nd St. The vehicle has been sitting in this location for at least three to four days with its entire front bumper ripped off, clearly indicating it was involved in a collision at this intersection. The vehicle appears disabled and should be towed and addressed immediately. This is not an isolated incident. This car is one of multiple vehicles recently struck at this same stop sign, reinforcing that this intersection is incredibly dangerous and poorly controlled. The broader issue is the overall design and lack of safety enforcement at this intersection: - Drivers frequently treat the stop as a yield due to the layout and sightlines - Legal U-turns occur regularly at this location, adding to driver confusion and risk - Vehicles pass through quickly to continue along W. 2nd St - The crosswalk spans the full width of the roadway, and pedestrians often cross to the median in stages This combination creates a serious hazard for pedestrians, vehicles, children, cyclists, and animals. There have been many close calls, and the presence of a visibly damaged, abandoned vehicle at the corner underscores how unsafe this intersection has become. This intersection has not received the attention or safety improvements it clearly needs. Immediate action is needed, including removal of the damaged vehicle and a review of parking restrictions, signage, traffic calming, and the stop/crosswalk configuration to prevent further crashes and injuries.
