I am writing to formally and urgently request that the City petition for speed bumps and/or speed enforcement on Cornell Street in Roslindale. I have lived here with my husband, Tyler (a Boston police officer), since 2024, and during that time we have witnessed multiple car accidents and numerous near-miss incidents that could have resulted in serious injury. Cornell Street is widely used as a cut-through, and vehicles frequently travel at dangerous speeds, often estimated at 50–60 mph. This is not a hypothetical concern. My own vehicle, as well as my neighbors’, have been hit. My husband and I have personally had several close calls while simply getting in and out of our car, parking, speaking with neighbors, and even shoveling snow. There are also many young children who live on this street, which makes the situation even more alarming. The risk is immediate and ongoing. It feels inevitable that, without intervention, someone will be seriously injured or worse. A neighbor of mine, a Boston firefighter who has lived here for many years, shared that he has been requesting similar measures for a long time, yet the danger persists. I urge you to take this matter seriously and help initiate the process for installing speed bumps or implementing other effective solutions as soon as possible. Please let me know what steps we can take to move this forward. Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent safety issue.
