I am writing to you as a concerned resident of Hyde Park, MA regarding the abandoned land located along American Legion Highway, which my street Navarre abuts. For some time, the condition of this land has been a growing concern for our neighborhood. I have contacted 311 and local City Councilors over the last 5 years pertaining to the conditions and activities that occur in the area and on the land with no resolution because I have been informed that it belongs to the State and part of the land is privately owned. The following issues negatively impact the health, safety, and aesthetic quality of our community: • It is overgrown with weeds, tall grass, and trees and is creating a fire hazard. • It has become a dumping ground for trash and debris, which attracts pests and is an eyesore. This situation is causing a decline in our community’s personal safety and as it is causing a saturated population of hazardous wildlife in our surrounding properties. We have a population of coyotes living on the grounds, which has become a major safety concern. It has personally affected my family, which my dog was ambushed and killed in our backyard and put me in danger. • The area is not secure and attracts loitering and other potentially illegal activities. • Section of fencing barriers are damaged, need to be secured as it is an active throughway for city drivers and should there be car accidents there are minimal protective barriers.
