On Monday evening, 2/9, we noticed our sewage drain overflowing in our basement. That night a drain company responded to our emergency call and spent two hours trying to unclog the drain without success. The next day another crew came out and also had no success. On the third day there was also no success but after investigating the drain with a camera, they realized there is a 100-year-old house trap affecting flow in our sewer line. The trap is in the sewer line which goes underneath our neighbor’s house, not ours, and then into the main city line. It’s too bad but that’s how it is. Our neighbor has told us she is not willing to allow anyone back into her house to drill and fix the problem. This is a health hazard as there has been sewage on our basement floor since Monday night, and presumably sewage is holding up under both of our properties. We have been without plumbing since Monday night. I have two young children and we can’t flush toilets or take showers. We spent one night in a hotel. We have been in touch constantly with water and sewer to expedite this claim and have contacted 311 multiple times and our City Councilor. Now we are into a long weekend with no resolution until next week at the earliest when a contractor will do another look with the city also watching. It’s unbelievable the city would let this go on so long without taking direct action as it’s violating code to allow this health hazard to persist and also not OK for a family to be without proper plumbing for more than a week. We are seeking immediate relief.
