Recurring street drainage and sidewalk icing hazard – 5 Tileston Street. Previously reported several times. There is no catch basin/drain at this end of Tileston Street, and water routinely accumulates in the roadway directly in front of 5 Tileston Street. Passing vehicles splash this standing water onto the adjacent sidewalks. During freezing weather, this creates a recurring icing condition. Even when the sidewalk is cleared and treated, additional water from the roadway is continuously splashed onto it and can refreeze, making it extremely difficult to keep the sidewalk safely ice-free. This appears to be a street drainage/infrastructure issue rather than a sidewalk maintenance issue. I am requesting that Public Works/Engineering inspect the drainage conditions at this location and determine whether a catch basin, drainage improvement, or other corrective measure is needed. I am reporting this proactively because of the foreseeable pedestrian safety hazard during freezing conditions. Photos/video documenting the roadway drainage and water accumulation are available. This also causes a large puddle at Hanover and Tileston St which forces pedestrians into the road causing additional hazards.
