Formal 311 Complaint Submission Case Type: Public Works Department: Code Enforcement: Illegal Vending / Sidewalk Obstruction Location: Columbia Road (Sidewalk segment between Cushing Avenue and 555 Columbia Road), Dorchester, MA 02125 Priority Level: High (ADA Accessibility & Public Safety Hazard) Description of Violation: I am writing to formally report an ongoing, hazardous illegal vending operation that is completely obstructing the public sidewalk on Columbia Road, specifically stretching between Cushing Avenue and 555 Columbia Road. Unpermitted vendors have set up commercial operations directly on the public walkway, creating severe bottlenecks and safety risks. This bottleneck is directly disrupting a heavily utilized public transit corridor. Commuters exiting MBTA buses are blocked from safely accessing the sidewalk, forcing them to step dangerously close to active traffic on Columbia Road. Most critically, this unauthorized obstruction actively breaches basic accessibility standards and creates an immediate barrier for our neighborhood's most vulnerable populations. Senior citizens, wheelchair users, and visually or physically impaired residents are completely blocked from navigating this path of travel. Forcing individuals with mobility aids or visual impairments to navigate around commercial setups or step into a busy roadway presents an unacceptable public safety liability. Please dispatch a Code Enforcement Officer from the Public Works Department to inspect this specific zone, enforce Boston Municipal Code Chapter 16, and clear the public right-of-way to restore safe, ADA-compliant pedestrian access.
