  • Damaged Sign

37 Hastings St, West Roxbury, Ma, 02132

Good Morning, reaching out again regarding the unsafe intersection at Center Street and Hastings Street in West Roxbury. I have filed many complaints, written letters and have had phone calls with neighborhood liaison Ben Tayag and have also reached out to Mayor Wu directly. My children and I attempt to cross Center St. at Hastings intersection daily and I can confidently say that this is an incredibly dangerous intersection for pedestrians to cross. This morning I had my umpteenth dangerous attempt to cross, while another pedestrian trying to cross to get to the commuter rail had the same. The only way to stop traffic is for a pedestrian to risk their life by literally walking into the street and waving/begging for traffic to stop from two directions. We need a pedestrian operated crossing signal with sounds, lights, and high visibility signage. What the city has there now is disgraceful. It can hardly be seen beyond a foot away. By that time, its too late. Another year has gone by with zero accountability by the city and zero change to this dangerous intersection. Now with children out of school and crossing the street, the city needs to do better. We are begging for a safe way to stop traffic and cross Center St. at Hastings St. One way Street, City owned municipal parking lot, several busy restaurants, stores, shops. Bike lanes and an open area in the middle of Center St. where delivery trucks often park. Please help us to safely navigate this busy intersection before there is another pedestrian fatality. Thank you. Kathleen Linso
