FORMAL HOUSING COMPLAINT – DEAD RODENTS IN VENTILATION SYSTEM / SANITATION AND HABITABILITY CONCERN I am requesting an urgent inspection by Boston Inspectional Services regarding an unresolved rodent and sanitation issue in my apartment building. The building recently experienced a rat infestation. Management has acknowledged that, following extermination, dead rat carcasses remain within the building’s ventilation system. A strong decomposition odor from the dead rodents is now entering my apartment through the vents. I have already reported this condition directly to property management. Management is aware of both the dead rodents and the odor entering my apartment, but the underlying condition has not been adequately remediated. The carcasses remain in the ventilation system and the decomposition odor continues to enter my living space. This is no longer simply a pest-control concern. The building recently experienced a rat infestation. Management has acknowledged that, following extermination, dead rat carcasses remain within the building’s ventilation system. A strong decomposition odor from the dead rodents is now entering my apartment through the vents. I have already reported this condition directly to property management. Management is aware of both the dead rodents and the odor entering my apartment, but the underlying condition has not been adequately remediated. Require management to professionally locate and remove the dead rodents where reasonably accessible; 4. Require appropriate cleaning, disinfection, and remediation of affected ventilation and surrounding areas; 5. Determine whether additional measures are necessary to prevent contaminated air and decomposition odors from entering occupied units; and 6. Issue any appropriate orders or violations necessary to ensure that the condition is fully remediated. Management has already been given notice and has acknowledged the source of the problem. Despite this, I continue to experience the decomposition odor inside my apartment. I am requesting an inspection and formal documentation of these conditions as soon as possible.
