Description
To: Boston City Hall, Boston Parks and Recreation Department, and the Appropriate Boston City Council Representatives We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Talbot Avenue and the surrounding community, respectfully petition the City of Boston to consider establishing a standard-size, enclosed dog area for local residents and their dogs that are unable to walk the distance to Ronan park which is a 39 minute walk from Talbot Avenue where many dog owners reside. Our Request We request that the City of Boston explore the feasibility of designating and developing a suitable space along Talbot Avenue for a fenced, enclosed dog area where residents can safely exercise their dogs, encourage healthy interaction, and connect with fellow members of the community. Why This Matters 1. Promoting Healthy Movement and Dog Socialization Dogs need regular physical activity, stimulation, and appropriate opportunities to interact with other dogs. A designated, enclosed area would provide a more controlled environment for exercise and socialization, while allowing owners to supervise their pets responsibly. 2. Strengthening Our Community A neighborhood dog area is more than a space for pets. It is an opportunity for neighbors to meet, build friendships, exchange support, and develop a stronger sense of belonging. This small but meaningful improvement could help create a more connected, welcoming, and engaged community. 3. Supporting Responsible Dog Ownership A designated area with secure fencing, controlled entry gates, waste-disposal facilities, and clear usage guidelines would encourage responsible pet ownership and provide an appropriate place for permitted off-leash activity. 4. Investing in a Healthier Neighborhood Access to shared recreational spaces encourages residents to spend more time outdoors, stay active, and participate in neighborhood life. A thoughtfully planned dog area would be a practical investment in the well-being of residents and their pets. Our Commitment to a Thoughtful Solution We recognize the importance of responsible planning, neighborhood input, public safety, accessibility, cleanliness, and consideration for nearby residents. We ask the city to assess potential locations, available public land, maintenance requirements, and the level of community support for this proposal. We believe that meaningful community improvements do not always require large investments. Sometimes, a modest change can create lasting benefits for the people and animals who call a neighborhood home.
