Description
There is a crosswalk at a blind curve which can be remedied with the installation of a convex mirror. The cross walk is in Charlestown where Bunker Hill Street become Lowney Way. It is 25 yards or less from the Harvard- Kent Elementary School property. The crosswalk is heavily used by students and care givers coming from the Navy Yard, as well as the North End and West End neighborhoods. It is also the primary corridor for caregivers and children walking two and from Charlestown into the Navy Yard for the park or commuting via the ferry. Currently when pedestrians are walking east towards the Tobin underpass and Chelsea Street, they must walk half way into the street before they can see on coming traffic. This issue can be rectified with the installation of a convex mirror on a pre existing pole. Infrastructure should not just alert cars of pedestrians but it should allow pedestrians to safely judge when to cross.
