  • General Traffic Engineering Request

2 Lexington St, East Boston, Ma, 02128

I am reaching out a second time regarding the speed bump program. I am in favor of the speed bump program, but as a resident of Lexington Street in East Boston I am concerned that the current plan will ENCOURAGE speeding on our street. Many people already speed on the narrow street which includes an elementary school play ground. Adding speed bumps on adjacent streets will increase traffic on our street if there is no speed mitigation. I hope we can find additional ways to remedy speeding on this street, as the current plan does not seem adequate. |

48 Rockdale St, Mattapan, Ma, 02126

constituent is requesting a speed bump on the street for safety |

    CLOSED #101005053434

Case Noted. Thank you for reaching out to us with your issue. We share your concerns about making the City streets safer and we recently revised our speed hump program so that neighborhoods can receive them more quickly. We aim to slow traffic to make every street in the City safer and more comfortable for walking, biking, and rolling. A map is available on boston.gov that shows which streets in the City will receive speed humps during the first three-year phase of construction. We will continue to update the map as new phases of construction are determined. We plan to design and build speed humps in about ten areas each year for the next three years. This is approximately 500 speed humps per year. Thank you for contacting 311 and BTD.

  • General Traffic Engineering Request

17 Bowditch Rd, Jamaica Plain, Ma, 02130

Constituent states the road is overcrowded with cars parked on either side which makes it difficult for vehicles and larger vehicles (trash trucks) to get through. Thinks there should only be parking on one side. |

    CLOSED #101005034933

Case Noted. These types of requests will have to go through the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services and in turn they will contact residents of the street of this request before any action is taken by BTD. Even though it makes sense to eliminate parking on one side, residents of the street will have to be contacted of any large change such as this. Thank you for contacting 311 and BTD.

  • General Traffic Engineering Request

Intersection Of Trevore St And Edgemere Rd, West Roxbury, Ma

Constituent states there are two stop signs near the corner and people blow past them. Constituent states there needs to be a speed bump because there are alot of children in the areaand it is dangerous. Constituent has cameras monitoring how often people do not stop and is requesting an inspection |

    CLOSED #101005026768

Case Noted. Stop signs are not supposed to be installed for speed control. Stop signs are installed for right of way access. Stop signs, when installed properly go through a stop sign warrant study. These signs were probably installed due to requests from residents and did not go through the proper protocols and/or channels. Typically streets that carry the most traffic has the right of way at an unsignalized intersection. Vehicles are probably "blowing" through the stop sign because it shouldn't be there and is not doing what it was "intended" for , which is to slow traffic. BTD will therefore do a study to see if the stop sign is warranted and if not, the signs will be removed. With that said, We share your concerns about making the City streets safer and we recently revised our speed hump program so that neighborhoods can receive them more quickly. We aim to slow traffic to make every street in the City safer and more comfortable for walking, biking, and rolling. This is approximately 500 speed humps per year. Your street is eligible for speed humps but they are not imminently planned. Streets have been prioritized based on a series of criteria that promotes the safety of all street users. We evaluated each area for its safety history, demographics (higher numbers of children, older adults, and people with a disability), if there are parks, schools, community centers nearby, plans for repaving and ramp construction, and needs otherwise identified by the residents of the neighborhood. We will work to continue to scale up our capacity as quickly as possible. Thank you for contacting 311 and BTD.
