    Brainard St & Reservation Rd

I am asking for urgent help with the dangerous conditions at Smith Pond Playground on Reservation Road. Cars speed down Reservation Road directly in front of the playground every day. There are children walking to and from the park alone, riding bikes, crossing the street, and waiting at the bus stop. I have seen multiple close calls where a child could have been hit. It is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt if nothing is done. I have lived in this area for over 15 years and have been asking for help for years. This cannot keep being ignored. There needs to be a pedestrian-activated flashing crossing sign near the bus stop, where people regularly cross. A speed sign, raised crosswalk, stop sign, speed bumps, or any other traffic-calming measure should also be considered immediately. I understand this may be DCR property, but the DCR office is literally across the street from the playground and they do not do anything. The playground is left dirty and unsafe. There are no trash cans, the water fountain has not worked since I moved here in 2012, and the grass and bushes are overgrown. We regularly find needles, trash, diapers, food, and other garbage around the playground. Families should not have to clean up needles and trash from a children’s playground, cut back bushes, or deal with overgrown grass just so kids can safely play. This is not acceptable. The City of Boston should not simply refer residents back to DCR when DCR does not respond or maintain the property. There has to be a way for the City to step in, coordinate with DCR, or push for action before a child is injured. Please treat this as an urgent safety concern and provide a clear response about what can be done. The neighborhood needs a safe crossing, slower traffic, proper cleanup, and real maintenance at Smith Pond Playground. Thank you.
