    Could you please make it so there's a pedestrian crossing signal and all traffic is stopped? It's terrifying crossing American Legion while cars on Mount Hope are turning into you. Drivers do not pay attention to pedestrians, they only see that green light. Thank you.

    The constituent is requesting to have this intersection reviewed for pedestrian safety after a woman passed away this past week by being struck by a vehicle. She says that the intersection the woman died at has a similiar problem to the intersection of Sleeper and Seaport Blvd. The constituent says that this intersection gives pedestrians an OK to walk when the other light is green for traffic. She says this poses a safety hazard for people who are distracted when crossing the street. |

    Intersection Of Herald St And Washington St, Boston, Ma

    The pedestrian crossing sign turns to allow at the same time as the traffic light. There needs to be a delay in between to allow people to cross as the traffic moves as soon as the light turns. I’m aware of a fatality at this corner in Dec 2017. I’m surprised there has not been more. Also every intersection on Herald St is gridlocked by 3p. Is there a way to paint the intersections at Shawmut,Washington and Harrison the way the intersections on Kneeland are marked also with the signage to not block the intersections.This street has become increasingly dangerous with all the increased foot traffic with the addition of so many new properties. |

    The crosswalk on Rutherford Ave is timed horribly. When it's a walk signal the traffic coming from Cambridge with a green light is still going for a long time.

    Whenever the walk sign comes on, motorist are still making the right turn unto center street. The problem is the red arrow doesn't comes on when the walk sign does, so motorists keep on barrelling down on people on the walk sign- it is a very dangerous situation, that needs to be rectify.

    Intersection Of Hereford St And Commonwealth Ave, Boston, Ma

    Drivers headed north on Hereford and then taking a left west onto Commonwealth Ave create a dangerous and hazardous environment for pedestrians trying to safely cross the street via crosswalk. These cars oftentimes refuse to yield to pedestrian traffic and cuss out pedestrians trying to cross the street. This is happening when pedestrians have a walk signal and the right of way. Request for Transportation to look into this matter further, examine and observe the intersection to see how it can be made safer for pedestrians, to see what can be adjusted to allow for the safer crossing of pedestrians. Perhaps change the signal timing to allow an overlapped red light in which both sides of the street are at a standstill, allowing pedestrians on all sides a window of time to cross the street. |

    Intersection Of Constitution Rd And Chelsea St, Charlestown, Ma

    Freedom Trail crosses Chelsea Street, goes to/from Bunker Hill Monument. When pedestrians have walk signal to cross and follow Freedom Trail, the vehicles on Constitution Road get a green light and some turn left onto Chelsea Street while people are in the crosswalk. Potential hazard once busy tourist season arrives.

    Case Noted. As part of Boston 2030 some traffic signals are being changed from an exclusive pedestrian sequence (all walk) to a concurrent pedestrian sequence. This signal is designed in conformance with BTD Guidelines which specify a system of walk lights in conformance with federal safety standards and widely used throughout the country. Under this system it is possible to provide longer "Walk" times and shorter delays to vehicles and pedestrians. During the green light for vehicles "Walk" signals are on for pedestrians crossing parallel to the flow of traffic. Under this system turning traffic must yield to pedestrians. We have verified that signs are in place directing turning traffic to yield to pedestrians and additional signs are provided to warn pedestrians to watch for turning vehicles.

    Intersection Of Englewood Ave And Sutherland Rd, Brighton, Ma

    The pedestrian lights at this intersection do not come on automatically with parallel traffic. One block further, pedestrian signals are automatic. Requiring pedestrians to use a beg button to cross the street treats them as second-class users of public streets and is a barrier to access for anyone with limited mobility. We already give cars the first class status of a green light by default, without forcing them to wait (which might help slow down unsafe traffic speeds on Sutherland), but not giving pedestrians the parallel light is even worse.
