- Note submitted to Parking Services: On Tuesday evening (11/17/09, at about 5:30pm, I found a parking meter space, the first space after turning left from Cambridge Street onto Bowdoin Street (and I failed to get the house #, to prove this was Bowdoin Street -- my apologies). After parking correctly, I walked up approx. 30 feet, to read carefully the closest sign that I could find. It indicated "no parking" for street cleaning. When I came returned to my car after my event in the John Adams Courthouse and found a ticket on my windshield, I went back and made a phone-photo of the sign I had read in that section of the street (see attached). When I read the ticket, it said the violation was "Resident Parking Only" - which was not evident in the signage on that part of the street. Rather, I found I would have had to walk forward an ADDITIONAL 30 feet up the hill (east) on Bowdoin to have been able to read the operative sign. So my concern is that,no only myself, but everyone else in that row that night received tickets. So it was not only my mistake, or inability to see the operative signage. The available signage is incomplete and misleading. Could I suggest that there is a simple remedy: just add a narrow sign to the existing "street cleaning" sign, that says, 6pm - 8pm, Resident Permit required". This means you don't need to add a new sign post. The current situation appears to be a nightly "gotcha" for people unfamiliar with that area. I thought Boston had a reputation for fairness, but this signage choice makes me wary of visiting downtown again. I may not have been persuasive, but I hope you can research my concern, and get back to me.
