Description
Dear officer, This is Kang Soo Lee, postdoctoral associate at Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, MIT. I came to Boston from Korea three weeks ago. I’m not familiar with the manners and customs in this country yet. Although this email might be little bit impolite, I sent you an email because I’m in a very serious problem. I don’t know where to go now to solve this problem. I send you the email to ask something related to housing. I have lots of bed bugs in my place (Avalon apt, Prudential, Back Bay). I talked to the landlord and she said she would do the termination. However, landlord did not do the termination well (although she had to do the termination whole building, she just did it on my unit) and I still have them in my place. I don’t think she will do the right treatment. I told her that I have to move out. She said she cannot give my deposits back until a new tenant moves in the apt. She doesn’t seem to give it back after the finding. I gave her three month fee (first month, last month, and security deposit). I required her to give my 2.5 month fees back. However, she said that depends on the date when new tenant moving in. I’ve washed all my clothes for about 9 hours, twice. I have suffered from this problem so that I could not settle down in Boston well. Is there any way to solve this kind of problem? I guess the landlord treats me a little bit impolite because I’m new here and my English is not good at this point. I’d like to visit you and explain about the details. However, I don’t have lots of money at this point. There are four things I know: 1. Although building has 27 floors, she just did the termination in my unit. I don’t think it is enough. 2. When the ex-tenant suffered from the bed bugs, she just did termination by herself. After she moved out, landlord just threw mattress away. After that, I moved in. 3. Although the apt is not allowed sublease, landlord did. 4. As I know, the law in Massachusetts said that landlord has to open an Escrow account when she receive the new tenant in Massachusetts. However, she didn’t. I don’t want lots of money. I just want my money back because I have to find other place to live. Now I am staying at temporal residence. I’m here to do the research, not for legal fighting. Please help me. I don’t have anyone to help me in this country and I’m not familiar with the customs and manners in this country. Please let me know anything to help me. Thank you very much. Best, Kang | Case (SR) Type: [Miscellaneous] Referred To: [CONSTITUENT/24 HOUR SERVICES]
