Description
Is it a traffic or pedestrian signal problem: [Traffic] What is the problem with the traffic signal: [Controller/Timing Issues] Please explain: [The traffic signal at this intersection for turning right from the Riverway onto Brookline Ave: [north] are non-standard and as a result drivers get confused during every cycle. It'd be great to get this fixed. The current set-up is as follows: A 5-light vertical traffic signal with the regular red, yellow, green on top of a blank signal and a green turn signal. The light cycle is 1) Red only 2) Green only 3) Yellow only 4) Red only 5) Red + Green Arrow 6) Red only. This is confusing, because the green light for the right turn only comes on AFTER the red light has come on and cross traffic has started to move. This is highly non-standard and completely unexpected to anyone unfamiliar with this intersection. The first step in improving this situation would be to change the cycle such that the green arrow is already visible when the traffic signal is green for traffic to go straight, i.e., 1) Red only 2) Green + Green Arrow 3) Yellow + Green Arrow 4) Red + Green Arrow 5) Red only. That would be less confusing, but ultimately, what should be done is change the arrangement of the signal and have two different signal faces for straight traffic and turn signals. As stated in the Federal Highway Administration Code "Shared signal faces shall only be used for a protected-only mode right turn if the circular green and green right-turn arrow indications always begin and terminate together". If my interpretation of the code is correct the signal cycle should then work something like the attached diagram. Thanks a lot for looking into making this intersection better!] Is the Pole knocked down: [No] What kind of pole is it: [Vertical Pole]
