- Re: Deteriorating buildings in Mission Hill - once a historic part of the Basilica's contribution My Mission Hill neighborhood has historic buildings on 'upper Smith Street' (once a historic part of the Basilica's contribution to community life) that (we have been told) out-of-state real estate speculators bought as investments, presumably wanting those abandoned buildings to deteriorate so that they would be condemned and allow them to build expensive high-rise housing on the lots. Harvard School of Public Health has a 99-year-lease at 90 Smith Street. Can the City of Boston just claim those abandoned properties and make something NON-political but good out of them (even public buildings)?? Currently birds and wild animals are going into and out of the two abandoned (but poorly-boarded-up) buildings (observably). |
