General Traffic Engineering Request

Intersection Of Dartmouth St And Tremont St, Roxbury, Ma

CLOSED #101003850101

Case Noted. Thank you for your comments about your concerns regarding the use of concurrent walk sequencing at this location. Please be assured that the first priority of the Boston Transportation Department is working to provide safe streets for all users. Over half of BTD operated traffic signals utilize concurrent walk operation as it improves pedestrian compliance with walk signals. This type of walk signal operation is consistent with pedestrian signal operation throughout the country. We will evaluate this location to confirm that the operation is consistent with current BTD Engineering guidelines for use of this type of pedestrian signal sequence.

Description
fwd'd to 3111 from MassDOT I have witnessed, and experienced, MANY near miss accidents at the dartmouth/Tremont street intersection in the south end due to pedestrians walking WITH a WALK signal, but cars taking a TURN (right or left) INTO the intersection. There should be a clear right of way for pedestrians. If a pedestrian gets a walk signal, they should be able to walk unencumbered without the ability of ANY car entering the intersection. There was a man in a wheelchair hit in this intersection....and just yesterday I witnessed three near misses! PLEASE make this simple adjustment for our safety.... red light cameras, enforcing no turn on red, and walk only on red at both intersections. |
