General Traffic Engineering Request

Intersection Of Bradlee St And Safford St, Hyde Park, Ma

CLOSED #101005020879

Case Noted. Thank you for reaching out to us with your issue. We share your concerns about making the City streets safer and we recently revised our speed hump program so that neighborhoods can receive them more quickly. We aim to slow traffic to make every street in the City safer and more comfortable for walking, biking, and rolling. A map is available on boston.gov that shows which streets in the City will receive speed humps during the first three-year phase of construction. We will continue to update the map as new phases of construction are determined. We plan to design and build speed humps in about ten areas each year for the next three years. This is approximately 500 speed humps per year. Streets with more than two lanes, major roadways, and streets with MBTA bus routes will also not be eligible for speed humps. Some streets that are hilly or curvy will not get speed humps. We will continue to work to slow traffic and offer safety interventions across the City of Boston. Streets have been prioritized based on a series of criteria that promotes the safety of all street users. We evaluated each area for its safety history, demographics (higher numbers of children, older adults, and people with a disability), if there are parks, schools, community centers nearby, plans for repaving and ramp construction, and needs otherwise identified by the residents of the neighborhood. We will work to continue to scale up our capacity as quickly as possible. Thank you contacting 311 and BTD.
