- Description
- I am writing regarding the homelessness issue that is rapidly unfolding in the Parkman Bandstand in the Boston Common. At the time of the email, I count 14 unhoused individuals establishing encampments inside the rotunda, in addition to a tent pitched directly next to it. They have clothes laid out and hung up on the railings, and garbage strewn about in and around the structure. This creates an extremely uninviting and menacing atmosphere in the area surrounding the bandstand, and is making a once treasured historical landmark a place to avoid. I deeply sympathize with those effected by the homelessness crisis, as well as the opioid crisis which many of them appear to be in the grips of. However, there must be another place for these individuals to establish shelters rather than inside a cherished monument where children once played, and tourists sought out. I know there is no clear solution for the issue of housing insecurity in the city, and your team is actively working on helping unhoused individuals in any way you can. But I plead with you to not allow the Parkman Bandstand to become a permanent homeless shelter, and relocate them before it gets out of hand. Thank you, | Case (SR) Type: [Unsheltered Persons] Referred To: [UNSHELTERED PERSONS]
