- Hello, another request. Could we get some of these painted near fire hydrants to signal no parking? It’s a NIGHTMARE to find parking in Allston-Brighton. I doubt the city will make any serious effort at reducing that burden anytime soon. So as a treat, these painted in the road could help drivers know ahead of time that what they think could be a legal parking spot (and an end to the seemingly endless driving in circles) is a mirage and a lie and is in fact a spot in front of or too close to a fire hydrant (where one will get towed, unfortunately). Speaking of towing, we could paint some of these neat stripes in other tow zones like the end of streets where there is little to no visibility. Seems like a low investment high reward kinda situation but I’m simply speculating.

Case Noted | Thank you for your concern and for contacting BTD. The City of Boston Traffic Rules and Regulations prohibit any driver from stopping, standing or parking a vehicle in front of a fire hydrant (or less than 10ft from a fire hydrnat). BTD does not install parking restriction signs nor install pavement markings around fire hydrants. Instead, we have made enforcement available to ticket or tow illegally parked vehicles 24/7. This approach has been found more effective.
