- Description
- We are picking up our complaint from last year and the year before about our neighbors at 85 Everdean St in Clam Point. The owner of 85 Everdean is buying up property on the Street and moving in people who work for his flooring business. The owner's name is Adam, and all through the year, but particularly when the weather turns warmer, he hosts Vietnamese Karaokoe parties which, even when he is hosting the parties inside his house, make it impossible for us to use our outside patio, let alone invite friends over. They start anywhere between 4 and 6 and go on until at least 10 or 11. We know that is the stopping point for outdoor music, and I believe they might have been visited by the police last year because they have moved inside. However, over the winter, Adam built a second floor on his house and now hosts the karaoke inside--both at 85 and at 84 Everdean (across the street). He switches between them. Adam has been very clear about wanting Clam Point to become entirely Vietnamese and has no concerns about driving out other residents in order to buy up vacated properties. If we could afford to, we would move--even though we love the area--and Dorchester--and have been here for 25 years. But looking forward to our retirement years without being able to go outside and take advantage of our outdoor space because an inconsiderate neighbor feels he has the right to take over the neighborhood--is both depressing and infuriating. We have NO problem with our neighbors having parties and celebrations--because they are our neighbors and have the right to do so. However, 4-5 out of 7 nights a week of karaoke that prohibits us from being outside AND which we can hear in the house, is not neighborly. We really are at our wits' ends, and facing a summer of this, especially if they again move outdoors, is incredibly stressful. Is there any way that they could be restricted to two nights a week of karoke--with notice of which nights those would be so we can plan our spring/summer/and fall outdoor activities? You may not have received other complaints because now that Adam owns most of Everdean street, he makes all of his employees go to the parties. We are on Mill Street, backing onto his property, and our neighbors spend their summers in Maine. Is there anything that we can do? We feel like prisoners in our own house because the noise (which includes a lot of wailing) is really intolerable. Thank you for understanding our concern. We moved here because of the diversity and the access to outdoor space. We have been involved in the community for 20 years, and now that we have the opportunity to enjoy it, we can't because one person has decided he MUST sing karaoke with loud music as often as possible without regard to anyone else. --Andrea and Eric
