Description
Constituent states via Contact Form on 7/2: Dear Mayor Wu or staffer who reads this, My name is Patrick and I have never written a politician before, but I feel compelled to speak up because the performance of the Red Line on the MBTA is simply unacceptable. I have been riding the MBTA - specifically the Red Line - for my entire life. I grew up in Braintree, attended Harvard, lived in Davis Square, lived by Broadway Station, lived by Andrew Station, and now live by the Ashmont Station. Needless to say, I have spent many hours of my life riding the Red Line. The MBTA has never been an efficient system. But, since the onset and "return to normal" from the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Red Line has been beyond awful. It is slower than it ever has been. It pauses more than it ever used to. The AC on trains often does not work. There is often 20+ minutes in between trains during peak commute hours. I understand the snowstorms of February 2016 caused major issues. I understand the Covid-19 pandemic threw the MBTA into financial disarray. Those understandable challenges are why I have waited until July 2024 to write this message. I began returning to a normal commute on the Red Line in July 2022. For nearly two years, the Red Line simply gets worse and worse. There are shutdowns which are supposed to speed up trains - the shutdowns occur and performance does not improve. It is a black-eye on the city to have dysfunctional public transit and it puts Boston in a disadvantageous position relative to other American cities. I know the long term fixes are going to be costly, disruptive, and a logistical nightmare. But something must be done. Sincerely, Patrick | Case (SR) Type: [MBTA] Referred To: [MBTA]
