- Description
- Pedestrians, which includes many school children per day attending Brooke High School, are simply not safe at this intersection. Commuters are itchy and gun it through the intersection without any regard for crosswalks once they have a green light for a right turn, or will swing up through a left so fast they don’t even think to look for pedestrians. I’ve also been honked at and harassed by drivers angry at me when I’m crossing with the signal. It’s clear a good portion of the drivers have no idea that not every crosswalk is an all way cross, and this intersection would be better off if no drivers were mobile when everyone crosses the road, which is dark for the start and end of the school’s operating hours. This intersection NEEDS an all-way cross, WAY more signage, or someone is going to get hurt or worse, and it will be entirely the fault of the city for allowing this to continue. |

Case Noted. Thank you for your comments about your concerns regarding the use of concurrent walk sequencing at this location. Please be assured that the first priority of the Boston Transportation Department is working to provide safe streets for all users. Over half of BTD operated traffic signals utilize concurrent walk operation as it improves pedestrian compliance with walk signals. This type of walk signal operation is consistent with pedestrian signal operation throughout the country. We will evaluate this location to confirm that the operation is consistent with current BTD Engineering guidelines for use of this type of pedestrian signal sequence.
