Case Noted | Hello, The speed humps are the result of the recent Safety Surge program, which you can read about here: https://www.boston.gov/departments/transportation/making-neighborhood-streets-safer Streets were chosen based on a variety of factors. If the speed humps become a safety issue, BTD will investigate. Thank you for contacting BTD and 311.

Case Resolved | We hear your concerns regarding speed humps on Northampton St., and we want to clarify that the speed control infrastructure we install is built to the same regulations across all of Boston, with no humps being over 3 inches in height or three feet in width. They are spaced with the goal of providing a consistent and predictable experience for drivers. We understand that speed control infrastructure can be initially disruptive to those who are accustomed to traveling roads prior to its installation, but it is put in place with the end goal of reducing speed-related crashes and by extension traffic problems overall, and has been shown to do so in former case studies. Our speed hump program is planned with the consultation of a variety of different emergency services. We have taken into account the different needs of first responder teams, and have taken steps to minimize interference with their operations while maximizing safety for Boston drivers. We take your feedback very seriously, and we will consider it as we move forward. Sincerely, The BTD Vision Zero Team
