Description
I am writing on behalf of the School Community Council (SCC) at Josiah Quincy Elementary School (JQES) to request the installation of “Entering School Zone” signage at the two primary access points to our school: Shawmut Avenue & Marginal Road Tremont Street & Oak Street Both intersections are located along busy, high-traffic roads with fast-moving vehicles and direct access to highway onramps. Despite being the main entryways for hundreds of students and families each day, there are currently no visible signs alerting drivers that they are entering a school zone. We believe this is a critical oversight. Proper signage is a basic and essential safety measure that communicates to drivers the need to reduce speed, be alert, and proceed with caution. Without it, drivers often move through these areas unaware that children may be crossing. We respectfully request that the City install: “Entering School Zone” signs on approaches to both intersections Complementary pavement markings, if possible, to reinforce visibility These signs would serve as a first step toward broader pedestrian safety improvements we hope to see implemented near JQES. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We are eager to work with the City to ensure our school zone is clearly marked and safe for all students.
