Case Resolved. BTD has paused the expansion of the Resident Parking Program as we review our existing on-street rules and regulations to better understand how and where programs such as resident permit parking are effective in improving resident access to parking across the City. Boston experiences high demand for parking with many competing interests for the curb. In our review, we are gathering information about how other communities address resident parking. Some issues that we are evaluating are: proximity to transit, addressing needs of vulnerable populations or temporary users, and identifying alternative parking resources. We intend to gather data and work with members of the community to learn more about these issues to develop a robust plan with established goals and metrics that will allow us to better define a resident parking permit program. In addition, after facing historic staffing storages, BTD has made progress to increase staff levels on the Parking Enforcement team, though we are still not in a position to expand areas that would require intensive parking enforcement. We will continue to hire until we are fully staffed up, and are on track to do so by winter. We aim to complete this extensive review early next year. We have recorded this request and your contact information and will contact you when the program reopens. If there are other parking and curb access concerns we may help you with please contact newmobility@boston.gov. Earlier this summer, the Office of the Parking Clerk and BTD launched streamlined parking permit applications and a new self-management permit portal for increased access and visibility. You can sign up at boston.gov/parkingpermits.
