- I am writing to raise a serious concern about the ongoing traffic situation at the Westland Ave / Mass Ave intersection. Construction in this area has created massive congestion, and the current traffic management is worsening the problem instead of alleviating it. During peak commuting hours—precisely when traffic is at its heaviest—construction routinely blocks lanes. At the same time, the light cycle only allows 5–10 cars through before turning red again, immediately stopping drivers at the next light at Huntington Ave / Mass Ave. This creates a line of traffic that extends all the way back to I-90, taking 20–30 minutes to move from the highway to Symphony Hall. Adding to the frustration, even when police are stationed at the intersection, they often do not actively direct traffic. Instead of easing the gridlock, they allow the poor signal timing to continue unchecked. Meanwhile, cross streets show little to no backup, which makes the current setup particularly inefficient and confusing. The result is not just frustration for drivers but also significant delays for public transit, increased emissions from idling vehicles, and safety hazards for pedestrians and cyclists navigating congested intersections. I urge the city to: • Reevaluate and retime the signals at Westland / Mass Ave and Huntington / Mass Ave to allow a reasonable flow of vehicles. • Actively manage traffic during construction <truncated>
