- I live in Dorchester, and my dog and I have been hit three times by ebikes riding on the sidewalk. Can you please stop treating this issue like it’s no big deal? There is no way you haven’t notice these ebikes all over the sidewalks. The most likely to be injured are dogs and children. You have created bike lanes everywhere in Dorchester and NOBODY uses them. I reviewed the appropriate guidance on the boston.gov website which clearly states that ELECTRONIC BIKES can NOT be used on sidewalks. You appear to make exceptions for regular bikes (which is also completely ridiculous), but you clearly state e-bikes cannot be on sidewalks. How am I supposed to defend myself from a bike coming at me at 18 miles an hour? I chose this specific category because there is no category for motorized bikes running over pedestrians and pets. I live in Jones Hill/Savin Hill, and the bikes are literally all over Dorchester Avenue and Pleasant Street. I see them whizzing by Everett elementary school on the sidewalk. Why are you guys letting this happen? One bicyclist blamed me for her ramming into me because i was stopped on the sidewalk by a tree while my dog was peeing. Please stop treating people on these E bikes like they’re children. They’re breaking the law and putting lives at risk all while your bike lanes stay empty.
