- Description
- Pedestrian safety hazard involving electric scooters operating on the sidewalk. On Saturday, December 13 at approximately 2:00 p.m., an electric scooter rider was traveling at high speed on the sidewalk directly in front of the residential entrance at 1861 Dorchester Avenue and nearly struck me and my dog as we exited the building. The rider made no attempt to slow down and appeared to be traveling at an estimated speed of approximately 20–25 miles per hour, far faster than walking or jogging speed. This is not the first incident at this location. During the summer, I was struck by a scooter riding on the sidewalk in the same area. That incident was not formally reported at the time. The building entrance opens directly onto the sidewalk, creating limited sightlines and placing pedestrians at immediate risk when scooters are ridden at speed. This represents an ongoing pedestrian safety hazard. I am requesting city review of this location for pedestrian safety measures, enforcement, signage, or scooter restrictions (such as a slow-ride or no-ride zone). This situation poses a serious risk of injury or death. | Case (SR) Type: [BPD: Traffic/Parking] Referred To: [POLICE: AREA C-11]
