- Safety Concern: Crosswalk crossing Dudley Street next to Boston Police Department (B2 Roxbury). I was crossing the Dudley street this morning near the BPS parking lot and was very nearly run over by a car. I had the walk signal at the crosswalk and looked both ways before crossing. About half way across a gray car came rushing towards me from the direction of Malcom X Blvd. and came within a few inches of hitting me. I was able to pull myself back just enough so he didn't hit me and as he drove by I saw that he was staring at his phone - so he didn't even notice he had driven through a red light and almost hit me. I called the B2 Roxbury Police Department and they told me to come in to file a report. I walked over to do just that but then was told there was nothing they could do because I wasn't actually hit and that I could file a police report but it won't go anywhere so it is pointless. After recently returning to this city after 20+ years away it's disgusting that we're telling people that there's nothing that can be done about people very nearly running over pedestrians in a signaled crosswalk while running red lights and staring at their phones. Beyond that problem, this intersection is extremely busy and is a serious safety concern for pedestrians. Perhaps adding traffic calming measures, a law enforcement presence, or other measures can be implemented before someone gets killed crossing the sidewalk here.
