Description
Incident Description On January 12, 2026, at approximately 6:00–6:07 PM, I was driving in Charlestown, Boston, turning from Gilmore Bridge onto New Rutherford Avenue, traveling toward the merge for Route 99 in the direction of Chelsea/Revere. Approximately 100–200 meters after completing the turn, my vehicle struck a large, unmarked pothole located in the travel lane. The incident occurred after dark, with limited visibility. Due to the roadway geometry and traffic conditions, the pothole was not reasonably avoidable. A concrete wall bordered the left side of the roadway, and active traffic occupied the adjacent lane on the right. Sudden braking or evasive maneuvering would have posed a significant safety risk. As a direct result of striking the pothole, my vehicle sustained two flat tires on the left side. Because the defect was located immediately after a turn in a rotary/merge area, it was unsafe to stop immediately. I proceeded a short distance to a safer location near the Route 99 merge where roadside assistance could safely access the vehicle. Roadside assistance was requested at 6:07 PM, and I remained roadside for approximately three hours before the vehicle was towed to a dealership. While waiting, another driver independently stopped and reported experiencing the same damage at the same location, confirming the hazardous condition of the roadway defect. I respectfully request reimbursement for vehicle damage and related expenses, including tire replacement ($509.15) and lyft costs ($20.94+ $9.92), resulting from this roadway defect.
