- NOT RESOLVED PLEASE SEND SOMEONE OUT ASAP CROSSWALKS AND HANDICAPPED RAMPS INACCESSIBLE TO BOSTON CROSSING GUARD PEDESTRIANS AND STUDENTS I am writing to report unsafe conditions at the intersection of Norfolk Street and Babson Street in Mattapan. At this time, the public sidewalks, crosswalks, and handicap ramps are still covered with snow and snowbanks, making it extremely difficult and unsafe for pedestrians. This is a very busy and highly trafficked community area with three schools, the Mattapan Boston Public Library, two churches, a laundromat, a group home, small businesses, corner stores, hair salons, and food establishments and more. Many senior citizens, students, and residents with disabilities rely on these sidewalks and ramps daily. There is also a crossing guard at this intersection who needs the area cleared in order to safely assist people crossing this very busy street. I respectfully request that a crew be sent out as soon as possible to clear the snowbanks from the sidewalks, crosswalks, and handicap ramps. When plows pass through, snow is often left blocking pedestrian access. I understand that snow removal is not easy, but I ask that this location be noted for future storms so pedestrian safety is not overlooked. Please note that this is a very very busy intersection that needs the city’s attention. Thank you for your time and for keeping records of this request. Our community truly depends on safe and accessible streets. Have a great day.
