Description
No portion of the protected bike lane on Comm Ave, eastbound or westbound, between Packard’s Corner and the BU Bridge are passable. The protected bike lane in front of 770 Comm Ave westbound is also impassable, with giant piles of snow. There are some stretches which have been cleared but there are giant piles of snow at some point in the lane, preventing any passage. I spent half an hour documenting the conditions on video, which clearly show that a) none of these lanes are passable and b) there is a clear need for these lanes to be cleared, as people are either dangerously riding in the street or riding on crowded sidewalks as this is BU’s campus. I truly appreciate the work of the Public Work’s department. I understand that you have had a lot of work on your hands to clear snow around the city, around the clock. But please, consider prioritizing making these lanes passable. It has been over a week since the storm, and the lanes have looked the same since then. In just the couple of minutes I spent this morning documenting the condition of the lanes, I saw several dozen people either biking or scootering on the street or on the sidewalk. Furthermore, vertical separators on Comm Ave on the I-90 bridge deck have been destroyed over the bridge deck and need to be replaced. Cars are using the bike lane as a third turn lane without the separators. Evidently, we need these lanes to be cleared and flexposts to be replaced. Thank you all for your service, and I look forwards to the resolution of this issue. .
