Description
I take issue with a Confederate flag painted across the complete front of the Boston Firehouse on Cambridge St. downtown. I find it offensive as it is a symbol and reminder of the country’s history regarding slavery and racism. Its origin is steeped in a time period where America was a slavery-driven and openly racist country. The values of that era persist within American culture, with white supremacist groups like the Ku Klux Klan and others using the Betsy across flag in their propaganda. To have the Confederate flag painted on a City of Boston-owned public building is offensive to me and certainly a large portion of the residents and the public. | Case (SR) Type: [Fire Department Issues] Referred To: [FIRE DEPARTMENT]
