Description
MBTA Executive Team - Back Bay Station Security and Policing Concerns Over the past several days, more than ten criminal incidents have been observed and reported at Back Bay Station, including public drinking, harassment, drug-related activity, and disruptive behavior both inside the station and along Dartmouth and Clarendon Streets. The most recent incidents occurred on April 1, 2026 (yesterday), at approximately 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM on the Dartmouth Street side, both involving drug-related activity. Police and security response has been inconsistent. In some cases, there has been delayed or no visible response. In others, individuals were moved along but remained for hours, continuing to drink alcohol on a bench while an officer was assigned to the station. These issues highlight the need for a review of current policing and security practices to ensure consistent enforcement, timely response, arrests and a stronger, more effective presence to maintain public safety and rider confidence.
