- Commissioner Tania Del Rio, Commissioner Boston Inspectional Services Department (ISD) Unsanitary and hazardous conditions continue at the Clarendon Street bus loop driveway at Back Bay station at Back Bay station. The entire driveway pavement is heavily blackened with grease and sludge buildup, creating slippery and hazardous conditions. The area is consistently filthy and is associated with recurring rodent activity, including large rats observed near the garbage room and throughout the bus loop, particularly at night. Boston Properties’ waste handling practices using open maintenance-style vehicles appear to contribute to garbage liquid leakage, sludge formation, foul odors, and ongoing contamination across the driveway surface. Although portions of the area are reportedly cleaned periodically, the full bus loop driveway was only partially power washed once during the past year. Conditions continue to rapidly recur after cleaning. A prior nuisance notice was reportedly issued regarding similar conditions; however, current conditions appear to have worsened significantly. Given the ongoing conditions, we respectfully request the following operational measures: Weekly power washing of the entire Clarendon driveway, sidewalk, and chimney area Nightly sanitation and cleaning of the garbage room area Use of professional closed, sealed garbage trucks to prevent leakage and contamination during waste transport operations These conditions present ongoing sanitation, pest-control, odor, and slip-hazard risks and may constitute a public health and safety concern requiring enforcement review.
