Description
I was previously working with an inspector regarding a severe rat infestation at my residence. Activity subsided and a cleanup was done. A new landlord bought the building and wanted access to a locked room that the previous landlord told me was just another entrance to the sprinkler room (which is right across from my unit). Turns out the locked room is a completely separate area and it is filled with rat feces. This room also holds the buildings common HVAC system and the only access is through my apt. He keeps entering this room through my unit, trapsing rat feces and I am concerned this is a severe health issue. There is also no ventilation in my unit. Yesterday, the landlord attempted to enter my unit to clean the rat feces out himself. I declined. He is now attempting to send a pest company by on Friday. He has not provided the name or credentials for the company as I requested. For all I know, he is sending a member of his team to clean it. He is also refusing to fix an overhead light that is wet, moldy and dripping. I have now involved the housing inspector. The landlord is being non-compliant. My question is, can he perform a hazardous rat feces cleanup with a tenant living in the unit when there is no ventilation? This issue paired with now an electrical issue and active drip that he will not address. Can this file be reopened and what can I do moving forward?
